Tirath Ram Chamdal came from India in the 1960s and started work as a humble bricklayer. His brother was a master sweet chef who inspired him to open his own Indian sweet shop in 1974, in the lively and upcoming Asian community of Green Street in East London.

Tirath Ram and his family worked hard to run East London's first sweet shop, producing authentic Indian favourites, and excelled in making the iconic India sweet known as Barfi. Perfecting the traditional preparation method of milk and sugar, it became their signature product, delighting the palates of the increasing Asian population.

At first, Tirath Ram used cow's milk to make barfi, then Sukh Ram, his eldest son and our CEO, went a step further and sourced buffalo milk from a Welsh farm. This made barfi true to the cherished tradition of Punjab, where buffalo milk is used due its abundance.

This Barfi, know as "Khoye ki Barfi", stands out for its taste and makes a perfect gift for many occasion.

In 2019, after nearly five decades as a sweet chef, Tirath Ram sadly passed away, and Sukh Ram brought his father's legacy to the Egg Free Cake Box, his new venture. 'Khoye ki Barfi' has now become a global favourite, loved across the UK and beyond. Enjoyed by people of all backgrounds, it has become the go-to-gift for weddings and religious celebrations. From India to the Philippines, Canada to the USA, the appeal of this barfi knows no bounds and continues to grow its following.
